Mild Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBIs)

Todays medical community refers to them as MILD traumatic Brian Injuries. If you have sustained one of these injuries, there is nothing MILD about it. These are serious injuries.

Did you know that over one in four people involved in a car wreck will experience a TBI. Fortunately many of these injuries will resolve on their own within 30 days, but many won’t. Just think about 10-20% of accident victims will have experience effects from this concussion.

A concussion occurs when the force of the wreck caused the brain to move inside the skull. Even a minor rear-end collision with very little damage to your care can cause this type of injury.

Sadly, many health care providers do not know this. We do! Since we are one of the few clinics that have a Board Certified Neurologist on our team, we have the expertise to diagnose and treat these TBIs. We know what imaging test to order and what treatment will help limit the effects of the concussions.

What are the signs of a TBI?

These are the common signs of a concussion or TBI (but not limited to):

Your world is different. If you suffer from symptoms like dizziness, sensitivity to light, or nausea and vomiting after the accident, a concussion could be to blame.

What is that ringing? If your ears are ringing, that could indicate that you suffered a blow to the head, even if you don’t remember it.

What happened? It’s normal to feel stressed and surprised after an accident, but if you are confused about things like the date, time of day, or other common things that you are usually aware of, you could be suffering the symptoms of a concussion. Confusion or memory loss may also show up days or weeks after the accident.

You can’t sleep. Sleep problems, particularly if you were sleeping well before the accident, could be indicative of a concussion. Insomnia is a possible symptom, but so is sleeping much more than usual.

Headaches. This one is obvious, right? If you suffered a blow to the head, headaches would be a logical symptom.

You are easily irritated. Mood changes, including irritability, aggressiveness, nervousness, or even depression, if you weren’t experiencing these before, could be signs of a potential concussion.

You can’t focus or concentrate. If you’re at work after the accident and you just can’t focus on the task at hand, it could be that you’re just tired, but it could also mean that you’re suffering from a concussion.

If you have been in an accident, get checked out. We are the experts! We have had great results on helping people get back to their normal. We have also given their attorneys enough information that they have recovered 6 and 7 figure settlements for their clients.

Spinal Disc Injuries

Intervertebral Discs act as the shock absorbers between the segments of the spine. They are vital for the spine to be able to function the right way. They keep pressure off the nerves that exit the spine and control most functions of the body. The sudden jarring force of a car wreck can damage these discs.

Some of the results of Intervertebral Disc Syndrome (IVDS) include:

With IVDS, these discs may be displaced at the lumbar, cervical, or thoracic areas of the spine. Intervertebral disc syndrome is a common cause of back pain.

Those who have this condition will usually find that it is made worse after the individual sits or bends for an extensive amount of time.

This condition may also lead to nerve pain in other areas of the body, such as legs and arms or along the

IVDS can also cause nerve pain in the legs and arms, depending on where the displaced disc is located in the spine.

One common type of nerve pain that IVDS can cause is sciatica which is pain along down the back of the leg all the way to the foot.

Individuals who suffer from IVDS often experience limited motion and it can also lead to issues with the bladder or bowels.

Men who have IVDS may find that erectile dysfunction is a noted side effect as well.

In very rare cases, surgery is required. In most cases we can provide relief through chiropractic, physical therapy and pain management intervention.

Our team are experts in this area. We have helped thousands of people that have experienced IVDS. We can help you as well. Call our office know at 904-425-4545 and speak to a patient scheduling department. Let’s get you the help you deserve.

Extremity Injuries

Car wrecks don’t only cause spinal and brain injuries. It is common to see injuries to the upper and lower extremities. Some of the most common are:

Foot and Ankle Injuries

Knee Injuries

Hip Injuries

Wrist and Hand Injuries (very common)

Elbow Injuries

Shoulder Injuries

Fractures

Our primary goal is to properly evaluate these injuries. We are fortunate to have an Orthopedic Surgeon on our staff and he is an expert in these types of injuries. We also refer out for MRIs when they are clinically indicated.

If the injury is severe and need surgery, we can arrange that. We have a great referral network of orthopedic surgeons. These are the surgeons we choose for ourselves and families.

In most cases, surgery isn’t necessary. We assist our patients with physical therapy to rehabilitate the and strengthen the extremity back to pre-accident status.

If you were involved in a wreck and are experiencing any of the above symptoms, call us at 904-425-4545. We can help!
